Dedicated Hosting With Single Core Processor

Carl Owen asked:

Customers in the web hosting industry look for hosting plans which offers reliability, connectivity, uptime guarantee etc. and hence Dedicated Servers are the most preferred web hosting solutions. However, the customer should choose a hosting plan as per the requirements. There are different web hosting plans offered by different web hosting providers which allows the customer to choose one as per the demands of the websites and applications to be hosted. The same way, you will find Dedicated Server Hosting which is offered with different kind of specifications and configuration due to which customers have options to choose from. Hence, it is necessary that the customer selects the right Dedicated Server in order to get good performance and the requirements are fulfilled.

If you compare Dedicated Servers, you will find different servers with different RAM allotments, the bandwidth provided and the disk space capacity. This is basically related to the capacity of the Dedicated Server but when it comes to Dedicated Web Hosting, one of the most important factors is the processor which is offered with various Dedicated Servers. Processor of the server affects the performance of the servers and hence the websites and applications are also affected. The processor of Dedicated Servers is also known as CPU which is responsible to carry out instructions. Dedicated Hosting is offered with various kinds of processors which includes single core, dual core, quad core and dual quad core. Single core processors are used by customers who do not have to run heavy applications and those who have just started with a dedicated server, whereas, Dedicated Servers with higher configuration processors are generally used by customers who have a higher configuration required.

Single core processors are the one’s you can choose if you are starting off with Dedicated Server Hosting. Dedicated Servers with single core processor have a processor in a single die and hence the commands are given to the processor (the CPU) are to be carried in the best possible way. After the tasks are performed, cache has to store the commands so that it is possible to recover them whenever required. However, if the data which is not stored in the cache is required, the RAM of the server or any other external storage device is needed by the system bus in order to retrieve the data. Due to this, the performance of the Dedicated Servers with single core processor is affected and the CPU is slower. Single core processors are fine when it comes to performing limited tasks at one single point of time, however, if there are number of tasks to be performed at the same time, there may be some problems.

The reason for this is the fact that the processor of the Dedicated Server has to move back and forth to perform the tasks. Though, choosing Single Core Dedicated Hosting wouldn’t be a cause of trouble for you if you are starting with it or you do not have many applications or websites running at the same time. However, recommendation is to choose a Dedicated Web Hosting provider who will allow you to upgrade your server at any point of time so that you can choose a Dedicated Server with better processor incase your requirements aren’t fulfilled with single core Dedicated Hosting.

Another question, this time about hosting?

Chris aka Jesus asked:

I just bought my domain names, and plans and all of this stuff, but accidentally chose the “Linux” hosting plan instead of “Windows”… I want to know if that’s going to make any big differences at all… I mean that’s an $80 mistake for over looking it, is there a way to switch it to windows? I’ve yet to start anything at all yet. If there isn’t a difference, I won’t worry about it at all.
