Online scammers have invented lots of new ways to cheat naive PC users. Google redirect virus is the latest threat and when it gets to your computer you cannot search on Google. Whenever you you will search on Google, you will be redirected to a different page of results. The results on that page will be totally irrelevant and if you click on any of those links you may end up visiting a malicious website which can cause even more trouble for your computer.
This virus spreads via illegal downloads from our trusted sources. Lately if you have downloaded a software, video, music, and screensaver from a website which is not trusted, then this might explain why your computer is infected with this malware. It will slow down your computer and show you pop-ups every now and then to get you into buying a software which is also a malware.
This virus doesn’t infect all the computers in the same way. It is capable of creating different filenames and it makes it very hard to remove it from computers. Please try to follow the steps and most likely you should be able to the restore Google’s functionality:
1. This virus alters your Windows host file and you need to revert the changes so that you can surf normally. To do this, please click on “My Computer” and locate this folder.
C–>Windows–>system32–>Drivers–>etc
2. Now please find a file called “Hosts” and open it in Notepad.
3. Delete all the lines from this file except “127.0.0.1 localhost”. The other entires in this files were related to malicious websites and that’s why you were being redirected. Save the file and close it.
Once you are able to the restore your computer’s functionality, you should really consider getting a good security software and make sure that it provides real-time protection for your computer. This is to assure you that even if you get to an un-trusted website by mistake and download something, that threat will be detected before it spread to your computer.
